A single message rarely tells the whole story. Over years, however, messages can reveal patterns that are difficult to explain to a lawyer, organise for court, and painful to revisit. How can someone take that history to a lawyer in a useful format? Join Jenny Rudd, founder of Dispute Buddy, and Charles Hale KC for a conversation about documenting communication, recognising patterns and preparing evidence in family disputes. Jenny created Dispute Buddy after spending around 40 hours collecting and organising her own text messages for a family court case. Her software finds patterns of coercive control and other abuse, and turns text-message histories into organised reports to give lawyers or the police. Charles is Joint Head of Chambers at 4PB and practises in both children and financial cases. He’ll bring a family barrister’s perspective to the discussion: what makes evidence useful, how a wider pattern can be presented clearly, and what to consider when preparing for a conversation with a lawyer. This session is for anyone navigating a family dispute, working in family law, or anyone who wants to hear how a personal ordeal became one of the fastest-growing startups to come out of New Zealand, now taking off in the US and UK.
